Impact windows and doors in Broward County

Broward is our home county. Our shop is on Allen St in Hollywood, and every Broward city sits inside the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, so every window and door we install here carries an approval for that zone. Each city runs its own building department, and we file the permit wherever you live.

What is different in Broward County

High-Velocity Hurricane Zone

The Florida Building Code puts all of Broward County in the HVHZ, with a 170 mph design wind speed for ordinary homes (Risk Category II). Products must be approved for that zone and pass large-missile impact testing.

One retrofit schedule, many city checklists

Broward cities use the Broward County Uniform Building Permit Application and the Uniform Retrofit Window and Door Schedule, but each city adds its own checklist. Pembroke Pines and Miramar, for example, ask for an HOA affidavit even when there is no association.

Wind loads by building height

Homes under the height limit can use the Broward County fenestration wind load chart. Taller buildings need wind loads signed and sealed by an engineer, which matters for condo towers on the beach.

“Very Professional! My door has not closed properly in years, even though I’ve had it fixed before. Now it opens and closes perfectly! Plus he was in and out ! 10/10 will recommend!!”

Do all Broward cities require impact windows?
