Impact windows in Hollywood, FL

Half the homes in Hollywood were built before 1970, and plenty still have their original awning or jalousie windows. We replace them with Miami-Dade NOA impact windows and handle the city permit from start to finish.

Impact windows being installed on a block home in Hollywood, FL

Hollywood's median home was built in 1969. Houses from that era in Hollywood Hills, Boulevard Heights, and Driftwood were framed in concrete block with small awning or jalousie windows that let water in at the corners and need shutters every storm. Replacing them with impact glass is the single biggest upgrade most of these homes can get.

The city adds its own steps. Hollywood's window and door checklist asks for a product approval for every unit, a numbered floor plan, and the Broward retrofit schedule. In the historic districts the new windows must match the old openings, and on the beach the glass must meet the sea-turtle rule. We build all of that into the quote so nothing stalls at permit review.

What changes for impact windows in Hollywood

Historic districts keep the openings

In Hollywood Lakes, the Beach district, Harrison/Tyler, and the downtown district, permit plans must confirm the new windows keep the same size, shape, and location. Any change goes to historic review. The city's board has denied a Lakes Area window change that did not match the original openings.

Sea-turtle glass at the beach

Properties on the Coastal Construction Control Line need glass with at least 45% visible light transmittance on windows facing east, north, or south. That rules out some dark tints, so we spec the right glass before ordering.

170 mph design wind speed

Broward County is in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone with a 170 mph design wind speed for ordinary homes. Every window we install carries a Miami-Dade NOA or Florida Product Approval for that zone.

FAQ

Impact windows in Hollywood: questions

Straight answers on permits, ratings, and timing for your city.

Call (954) 884-8224
How long does a Hollywood window permit take?

It depends on the city's review queue. Window and door permits are not eligible for Hollywood's express permitting service, so we file as soon as you approve the quote and schedule the install around the approval.

Can I replace jalousie windows with impact windows in the same opening?

Usually yes. Most jalousie and awning openings in 1950s and 1960s Hollywood homes can take an impact unit sized to the existing opening, which also keeps historic district reviews simple.

Do I need a Notice of Commencement?

For window jobs over $5,000, yes. Hollywood requires a recorded Notice of Commencement before the first inspection is scheduled. We prepare it with you.

What do impact windows cost in Hollywood?

About $1,500 to $2,000 per average-size window and $2,500 to $3,000 per larger window, depending on brand and size, plus the city's permit fee.
