What the City of Margate checks

Margate's Building and Code Services publishes its own Windows/Doors/Garage Doors/Shutters Permit Application Checklist. It states that windows and doors must be impact-resistant unless protected by code-compliant permitted shutters. The homeowner signs a Pool Safety Barrier Form with window and door permits, since a new door can be part of a pool barrier. Plans must say whether the property is in a Zero Lot Line community. Product approvals must be circled, not highlighted, and forms from other agencies are not accepted. Owner-builders need proof of residency at the job address and a notarized affidavit. Margate is a FEMA Community Rating System Class 6 community, and its flood map includes AH and AE zones, which matters for ground-floor doors.

FAQ

Margate questions

Local permitting, HOA rules, and the right ratings, we handle it all.

Why do I sign a pool barrier form for new windows?

Margate requires a homeowner-signed Pool Safety Barrier Form with window and door permits. Doors that open toward a pool can be part of the pool barrier, so the city checks it.

What is a zero lot line community?

It is a subdivision where homes sit on or near one side lot line. Margate's checklist asks whether your property is in one, and we note it on the plans.

Can I use a form from another city?

No. Margate does not accept other agencies' forms, and product approvals must be circled rather than highlighted. We use the city's forms.

Will impact windows lower my insurance in Margate?

Impact windows and doors installed to code may qualify for wind-mitigation credits. We give you the product approvals and final inspection paperwork your insurer asks for. Your carrier decides any discount.

Is my home in a flood zone?

Margate's flood map includes AH and AE zones. The city says its Class 6 Community Rating System status gives flood policyholders a 20% discount on flood insurance. We check your zone for ground-floor doors.
